This year, the 66th conference will celebrate and embrace the transformational nature of literacy. The conference theme is “Literacy: A Joyful Transformation” and reflects the amazing power that literacy offers, including the potential to spark imagination, inspiration, and wonder!

Carylee Carrington is a passionate literacy advocate, children’s book author, and host of the literary streaming show Read With Carylee. Her books, Everyone, Just Like Me (Archway Publishing, 2018) and Pretty Hair (Archway Publishing, 2019), help children learn to embrace and celebrate differences and create a kinder future. As a devoted advocate for the arts, Carylee serves as a board member on The Prince William County Arts Council and Reading Is Fundamental Northern Virginia Chapter, and has presented at schools along the East Coast. Her interactive children’s literary show, Read With Carylee, is available on YouTube, SoulVisionTV, and via her podcast, and introduces children to authors from diverse backgrounds, allowing the authors to read their books aloud in their own voice. Carylee is living her dream of bringing unique stories and authors to children around the world.
Conference Fee + Friday Author Luncheon with Cat Pleska (WVRA Membership Included) – $210
Cat Pleska, award-winning author, educator, president of Mountain State Press, and oral historian, holds an MFA in creative nonfiction writing and an MA in Humanities. Her memoir, Riding on Comets was published by West Virginia University Press, 2015. Cat edited three anthologies and her essays have appeared in Still: The Journal, Heartwood Magazine, Change 7 Magazine, and many others. She teaches creative writing full time in the English department at Marshall University.

The West Virginia Reading Association is the oldest professional organization in West Virginia committed to literacy instruction in the Mountain State. During the annual conference, over 500 educators from all over West Virginia and several surrounding states will go through the Exhibit Hall. This conference provides an opportunity for vendors to showcase some of their new and exciting materials.
